INVESTING IN THE CIVIC'S FUTURE

Civic Renovation Programme

A £300,000 programme of improvements to preserve our historic community building, improve accessibility and secure its future for generations to come.

This summer marks an exciting milestone for The Civic as work begins on the first phase of a major programme of improvements to our historic building.

The £300,000 renovation project is an important investment in the future of The Civic, helping to preserve this much-loved community venue while improving accessibility, modernising facilities and ensuring the building continues to serve local people for generations to come.

Work began on 20 July and is expected to be completed by early September.

PROJECT: FIRST PHASE

What Improvements Are Being Made?

Following a competitive tender process, Yorkshire-based ADNC Projects Ltd has been appointed to carry out the renovation works.

New Entrance Ramp

Improved access to the ground floor.

New Windows

Replacement of the front and west-facing windows.

Canalside Room

New flooring, doors and internal refurbishment.

Better Layout

Improved access to the lift and easier movement throughout the building.

Improving Accessibility

One of the most significant outcomes of the project will be the transformation of the Canalside Room.

The improved facilities will provide a dedicated space for our long-standing tenants, Experience Community, to deliver wheelchair skills courses. These sessions help people with mobility challenges develop confidence and practical skills for everyday life, including accessing the outdoors and enjoying the beautiful countryside across West Yorkshire.

The wider accessibility improvements will also make The Civic easier to use for all visitors, community groups and event organisers.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Made Possible Through Community Support

This project has only been possible thanks to the generosity of our funders and supporters.

We are extremely grateful to The Wolfson Foundation for its significant grant towards the project, and to the many local residents, volunteers and supporters who have contributed through fundraising events, donations and countless hours of voluntary effort.

Every contribution has helped us reach this important milestone.

"These improvements represent an exciting first step in securing the future of The Civic as an accessible, welcoming and sustainable community asset. We are incredibly grateful to the Wolfson Foundation and to everyone in our community who has supported our fundraising efforts. Their contributions are helping us invest in the building while preserving its heritage and expanding the opportunities it can offer local people."

DURING THE WORKS

What to Expect

There may be temporary changes to access arrangements and room availability while work is underway.

We'll continue working closely with contractors and hirers to minimise disruption and will provide regular updates through our website and social media.

LOOKING AHEAD

Opening Our Doors Again

Once the project is complete, we'll invite everyone to a Community Open Day to celebrate the improvements and explore the refurbished spaces.

We look forward to welcoming you.
