The Civic, Slaithwaite is an iconic building in the village of Slaithwaite within the Colne Valley. It dates back to 1884 and from 1891 became the home of our prestigious Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra. Today the Civic is used for a variety of activities including concerts, music, theatre, dance, fitness, weddings, public meetings and is the base for our local food bank.
The Civic is also the home of the local youth club along with Experience Community, a not-for-profit Community Interest Company that helps physically disabled people enjoy the benefits of outdoor and green spaces. We are also fortunate to be able to offer a Changing Places Toilet.
The Civic is community owned and not for profit. The building was transferred from the council in 2017 and is run by the Civic Hall Trust. It is a registered charity for the benefit of local people and the wider community.
Management of the Civic is overseen by an experienced team of trustees who coordinate a small team of volunteers with the overall aim of making The Civic a venue the whole community can access and enjoy.
The Civic are keen to work with, and show our support to, local businesses, charitable and community organisations and groups locally in the spirit of working together to make Slaithwaite a happy and prosperous place.
We always welcome the support of the local community so if you are interested in volunteering with the Civic in any way please do contact us, we’d be delighted to hear from you.

We are currently renovating the building to ensure we can offer a more accessible and comfortable space for all those that use the building currently and in the future. Any donation, however small, would very much be appreciated. Everything makes a difference.
